Union Township, New Jersey was originally the home of a subtribe of Algonquin Indians called Leni Lenape (meaning "men among men"). Indian trails became colonial roads and many can now be traced in the streets and highways in and around Union Township.
Union Township was part of Elizabeth Town until 1808. In the late 1800's, much of Union Township was redistricted into North Roselle. As Union County became more heavily populated, redistricting for the convenience of schools and now diverging interests of the population was found to be necessary.
Union Township is ideally located for today's businessman. Minutes from Newark International Airport, Union Township also has easy access to major highway arteries to New York City - less than 25 miles away.
