Colonial Westfield, New Jersey (Population 29,644 ) celebrated its Bicentennial in 1994. Originally part of Elizabethtown, it soon became known as the "Westfields of Elizabethtown." Many of the streets were laid out in the late 1690's. Almost fully developed now, this community is world-renowned for its excellent school system, vibrant downtown shopping and varied activities and events. None of this just happened, the residents of Westfield are active and up to date. The Town of Westfield has designated property right downtown and plans are underway for a memorial in downtown Westfield designed to honor Westfield residents who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attack.
A map of Westfield shows easy access to downtown and midtown New York City, metropolitan New Jersey and Newark International Airport. The Westfield Historical Society has a detailed repository of facts and early chronology including the sacking and occupation of Westfield by the main British Army June 26-27,1777 and the victorious Battle of Springfield in 1780.
