The community of Summit, New Jersey offers residential character and great transportation resources, an excellent educational system and a retail downtown. Sharing its Colonial heritage with its sister townships in Union County, it was originally occupied by members of the Unami (Turtle tribe) who were frequently seen there through the 18th century.  On March 17, 1869 part of Summit Township was formed from the western part of Springfield and New Providence. Disputes of town management we becoming increasingly
frequent due to the tremendous growth the railroad had brought to Summit. 

Summit has committed to keeping every  retail store open every day while undergoing a major downtown construction and renovation project.  This nearly $5,000,000 project has been most remarkable for its community involvement and commitment.
