The City of Rahway, New Jersey incorporated itself into a city in 1858. As part of the Clinker Lot survey area, Rahway's history shows it to have been part of Westfield Township in 1794 and its separation from other townships includes portions of other municipalities which later created their own governments (such as Clark in 1804). As part of the Elizabethtown Purchase of 1664, Rahway shares the rich history of the settlers of the United States as well as the Revolutionary patriots.
Rahway is the home of the Union County Arts Center. Originally named "Ye Olde Rahway Theatre, it is a showcase for the arts and cultural programs.
A thriving community, Rahway is ideally located for commuting to New York City (less than 25 miles) and offers a cultural base for home. The Rahway Hospital contributes outstanding community services including a Speakers Bureau and a consumer's library. On a lighter note, Rahway has many local groups such as the Rahway Valley JerseyAires, a noted fifty man barbershop chorus, and Teddy Bear Tea Parties.
